It’s Cloud Pictures. That’s The Whole Post.

Here are some photos and videos from a pop-up storm that moved through my area on Sunday May 19th, 2024. I would post more about it, but being back on social media to promote this page has really been bumming me out. I’m remembering now that I had taken a break from social media because all of the complaining, rage-baiting, and fear-mongering online were curating my thoughts into mental exhaustion. I’m having to remind myself that I started this project for me and it doesn’t matter if it gains a lot of traction or none at all, it’s a passion project.

Anyway, here are some pictures (I would edit out the power lines and towers but I can’t afford editing software):

Looking Southwest from my location in Fisher, Illinois

I was eyeballing this cloud for awhile looking for rotation. While I do believe there was some, it was very mild and not quite right for a funnel. I’ll have to keep practicing my observational skills.

I thought this little swirl in the clouds was cute

Clouds growing taller as they came into town

A very tall boi trying to break through the atmospheric cap

I thought this could be the edge of a shelf cloud, but it’s just another reminder that I need more practice with identification.

Airplane flying by through a break in the clouds in Champaign, Illinois

Storms didn’t start popping off in Champaign until an hour or two after this was taken

I love some ominous-looking clouds

A short (and shaky) shot of storms moving in near me. One day I’ll be able to replace my broken tripod and produce a steady video.

As a bit of a humorous side-note, I was researching cloud formations to see if I could identify anything I photographed and learned that the NWS uses Comic Sans on some of their web pages. I’m assuming they’re relics of a bygone era of the internet but if not, the person who committed to the bit deserves recognition.
